Emergency Tree Removal at Kinnerley Church
Following the impact of Storm Dave, a mature Judas tree was blown down directly across the entrance to Kinnerley Church. The fallen tree created an immediate obstruction to the main access point, posing both a safety risk and a disruption to visitors and the local community.
On inspection, it became clear that the tree had a significant internal cavity within the centre of the butt. This structural weakness likely contributed to its failure during the storm.
The team needed to:
Safely remove a large fallen tree from a public access point
Work within a confined entrance area bordered by walls and gates
Manage unstable timber due to internal decay
Ensure the site was left safe, clean and accessible as quickly as possible
The tree was carefully dismantled and processed on site using professional arborist techniques. Due to the internal cavity, extra care was taken when cutting and handling sections of the trunk to avoid unexpected movement or collapse.
All branches and timber were efficiently chipped and removed from site, restoring full access to the church entrance.
Larger log sections were set aside and made available to members of the church community, supporting a sustainable and community focused outcome.
The Result
Safe and complete removal of the fallen Judas tree
Full access to Kinnerley Church entrance restored
Site cleared, tidy and hazard free
Timber repurposed locally, reducing waste and benefiting the community
A Closer Look
The internal cavity within the trunk highlights how hidden decay can compromise even well established trees. While not always visible externally, these weaknesses can become critical during extreme weather events.
Community Impact
Rather than removing all materials from site, usable logs were retained and offered to the local church community for collection. This not only reduced waste but also ensured the tree could continue to serve a purpose.
